Hydrogen was a digital asset manager for 3D, built for artists, not engineers. Back then every tool just treated 3D models like plain files, and nobody had built for what actually eats up a 3D pipeline: curating, approving, and organizing huge collections of assets.
All of it was aimed at one thing: making it fast, and actually accessible, to curate thousands of assets at once. A lot of that leaned on AI, which was unusual for 2022. Smart multi-modal search, so you could find an asset by describing it or by visual similarity instead of by tags nobody ever fills in. Automatic organization. And auto-orientation, which quietly fixed models that showed up rotated every which way. We even built a custom agent that could run any of these for you, though they were all just as accessible straight from the interface.
The rest was fast, non-destructive bulk editing. Everything was recoverable. Folders, for example, were really just tags under the hood, so deleting one never deleted the assets inside it. And a bulk toolbox let you grab hundreds of assets at once to tag, categorize, or comment on all of them in a single move.
The review and approval flow let people leave feedback by sketching straight onto a specific animation frame. That turned out to be hugely valuable for clients signing off on work.
